The Parthenon

The Parthenon (Greek: ΠαρθενÏ?ν) was a temple built in Athens on the hill of the Acropolis in the 5th century B.C. to honor the Greek Goddess Athena. It was the chief temple and continues to be the most significant building remaining from Classical Greece, an enduring symbol of democracy around the world.

The legend of the Goddess Athena finds its roots in Greek mythology. The daughter of Zeus and Metis, Athena, bears the traits of her lineage, the clever and crafty nature of her mother, the Goddess Metis, as well as the warrior attributes of her father, the God Zeus. According to Greek mythology, the wisdom of Metis was renowned, and she presided over knowledge and everything intellectual. Zeus married Metis to prevent her from outwitting and destroying him. After marrying her, Zeus swallowed her whole in hopes of ending her threat to him and gaining her wisdom in the process.

However, Metis was pregnant with Zeus's child, Athena, who was subsequently born from his forehead. Athena became known as the Goddess of Strategic Warfare and was revered for fighting in the most intelligent and subtle manner. While the Greeks loved and worshipped Athena, they despised Ares, the God of War, who employed the most brutal methods of warfare in his battles.

Why did we choose the Greek Parthenon as the chief symbol for our logo?
