PHARR – An Alamo woman was arrested and charged with Drive While Intoxicated after she allegedly crashed into a McAllen police cruiser.
The collision happened October 27 at about 6:00 a.m. in the 1000 block of East Interstate Highway 2. According to a news release, McAllen police officers were assisting the Pharr Police Department with a crash investigation, when a black Ford truck driven by 20-year-old Emily Ann Robles crashed into the back of an unoccupied McAllen police vehicle.
Robles was transported to a hospital for treatment of an injury, and was subsequently transferred to the Hidalgo County jail in lieu of a $2,000 bond.
Texas police officers do risky work and often interact with dangerous people. The officers are covered by Texas’ workers’ compensation coverage to ensure their medical bills are paid in the event they are injured on the job.
In some situations an officer may also think about filing a personal injury lawsuit against someone who has caused their injury, especially if the responsible person caused the injury deliberately.
Third-Party Claims:
If an officer is injured due to a third party’s negligence, like a car accident similar to the one described above, they can file a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver in addition to their workers’ comp claim.
Intentional Acts:
Additionally, if a criminal suspect intentionally harms an officer during an arrest or encounter, the officer has the right to pursue a personal injury claim or lawsuit against the suspect.
