The Los Fresnos PRCA Rodeo has come to be known as “The Best Little Rodeo in Texas!” This bronco-busting community event started in 1989, when a dedicated group of forward-thinking cowboys and cowgirls got together to establish a rodeo tradition in their small community of just 8,000 residents.
For more than 30 years, the three-day, three night event has featured the best in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, tie-down (calf) roping, team roping, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. The Los Fresnos Rodeo is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), and is produced by Smith Pro Rodeo, also known as “The Greatest Show on Dirt.” Its founder, Stace Smith, produces more PRCA rodeos than any other stock contractor in the PRCA, and is a multiple winner of PRCA’s Stock Contractor of the Year award.
The Los Fresnos PRCA Rodeo is part of a wider community celebration that includes the Cameron County Livestock Show, a carnival, and concerts featuring top-name entertainers. The 2022 musical lineup includes Arron Watson, and The Spazmatics.
The festivities are held every year in the month of February on the Los Fresnos Rodeo Grounds located just off State Highway 100 at 500 East Ocean Boulevard.
