What Are Rollovers?

Rollovers are multifaceted crashes that are often intense impacts because they reflect how the driver interacted with the road, the vehicle, and any natural factors such as rain, sleet, or snow. The way a driver behaves behind the wheel and imperfect road conditions are often variable components in vehicle rollovers crashes.

While any vehicle can rollover, vehicles that have greater height (i.e. high center of gravity) like SUVs, trucks, and vans are more prone to a rollover if they’re involved in a single-vehicle accident.

Know the Facts About Rollovers

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), these factors can contribute to rollovers:

    • Alcohol – Approximately half of all fatal rollover accidents involve a driver who has been impaired by alcohol.
    • Routine driving – The NHTSA found that 90 percent of deadly, single-vehicle rollovers involved routine driving such as going straight or negotiating a curve. This data reflects the role that driver behavior (e.g. distraction, speeding, and impaired driving) pays a chief role in rollover accidents.
    • Rural roads – Around 75 percent of fatal car crashes happen on rural roads where the posted speed limit is 55 mph.

The administration also stated that 85 percent of fatal, single-vehicle car accidents are the result of single-vehicle crashes.

Involved in a Rollover Accident? You May be Eligible for Compensation.

Just because a rollover accident mostly occurs in a single-vehicle car accident doesn’t mean that the driver was totally at fault. Many factors can play an active role in causing a vehicle to rollover, from defective car parts to another driver’s reckless driving.

For this reason, rollover accidents can be complex in terms of finding out who is liable. Reaching out to an experienced car accident attorney like the ones at J. Gonzalez Injury Attorneys, however, is an important decision to make in determining the other party’s fault and fighting for the compensation you deserve.
