SAN BENITO — San Benito school district athletic trainers Robert Garza, and Raul Ramos were killed June 10 in an early morning collision with a delivery truck.

According to media reports, Garza and Ramos were traveling in the 27000 block of State Highway 345 about 7:30 a.m. when their vehicle was struck by the delivery truck. The reports indicate the two men were attempting to make a U-turn when the crash occurred. However, the details of the accident were still under investigation.

Garza worked as San Benito High School’s athletic trainer. Ramos worked as Veterans Memorial Academy’s trainer.

“We lost great men today,” said Dan Gomez, San Benito Consolidated Independent School District Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.

“The San Benito CISD sports and educational family were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of athletic trainers,” the district stated. “They were valued members of our district’s athletic department and will be greatly missed by both colleagues and students.”

“We were deeply saddened to learn about the death of two of our very own,” interim Superintendent Theresa Servellon stated. “We extend our most sincere and deepest condolences to the Garza and Ramos families. They will be in our thoughts and prayers.”

Truck crashes especially devastating

An average semi-truck weighs anywhere between 12,000 to 80,000 pounds. This can be as much as 20 to 30 times heavier than the average passenger vehicle. If someone is involved in a Texas car crash with a large truck, the odds are they would sustain not only an injury, but one that could be catastrophic and even fatal.

What is causing Texas truck fatalities?

Many factors can lead to a commercial truck crash. They range from faulty equipment, driver fatigue, excessive speed, distracted driving, and the use of drugs and alcohol. Of course, drivers of other vehicles can also be at fault in a crash with a truck. Passenger vehicles should always be following the state’s traffic and safety rules while maintaining a safe distance from all large trucks.

Why you need an experienced Texas truck accident attorney

A lawsuit concerning a truck crash requires a thorough investigation to gather evidence, and this takes time. For example, commercial trucks often have “black box” technology that records the truck’s information. This can be useful in the investigation to gather evidence since it could include data linked to the truck’s speed and braking at the time of the crash, and more about the surrounding location.

Only a knowledgeable Texas truck accident attorney can conduct the kind of rigorous investigation needed to win a court case.  The experienced truck accident attorneys at the J. Gonzalez Law Firm have the compassion, confidence, and knowledge to adequately pursue your truck accident claim, and make sure you get the compensation you deserve.
