BROWNSVILLE – The Brownsville Police Department was investigating a fatal motorcycle accident, according to a post on the department’s Facebook social media website.
The November 13 post indicated that a SUV collided with a motorcycle in the 2900 block of Central Boulevard at 12:26 p.m.
“We are actively working the scene of a major traffic collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle,” the post stated. “The operator of the motorcycle has been pronounced deceased.”
Traffic on Central Boulevard from Ruben M. Torres Boulevard to Media Luna Drive was temporarily halted while officers conducted an investigation at the scene. No information was immediately available on the victim or the driver of the SUV at this writing.
Motorcycle accident settlement calculators
Motorcycle accident settlement calculators are all over the internet these days, but are they accurate?
These digital tools can provide a rough estimate of the potential value of a personal injury claim involving a motorcycle, but it’s important to note that they should only be used as a starting point. The final value of any motorcycle accident settlement will always be contingent on the facts specific to each accident.
To use any motorcycle accident settlement calculator, you’ll need to provide information about:
- Medical expenses, including any outstanding bills
- Property damage, such as auto damage
- Lost wages, including paid vacation days used due to injuries
- Future lost income, if ongoing treatment will require more time off work
- Injury severity
- Accident circumstances, such as whether you were wearing a helmet
Other factors that affect the amount of a motorcycle accident settlement include:
Pain and suffering
This is a non-economic damage that’s calculated by multiplying economic damages by a variable, typically between 1.5 and 5. More severe cases have higher variables.
Severity of injuries
Injuries are categorized into three tiers: severe, complex, and mild to moderate.
Lost income
The victim’s age, current income, and future earning potential are all taken into account.
