HARLINGEN — At least five traffic accidents happened in just four hours at one location, according to the Harlingen Police Department. The department issued a news release stating that the crashes happened December 6 between 11:36 a.m. and 3:35 p.m. They all occurred on westbound Expressway 83 near the Bass Boulevard exit.
In the first accident, the Harlingen Police Department reported that a single-vehicle crash resulted in at least three other vehicles being wrecked. One of those vehicles, a Ram truck, was left on its side, while a number of other vehicles were rear-ended.
In the fifth and final crash, a vehicle was seen in flames following the collision. The rain-slickened roadway is said to have been a contributing factor in all the wrecks. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
Wet roads significantly increase the risk of personal injury in car accidents due to reduced traction, making vehicles more prone to skidding, hydroplaning, and loss of control. These events can lead to severe collisions resulting in a wide range of injuries including whiplash, head trauma, broken bones, and soft tissue damage. In short, wet roads amplify the potential severity of car accident injuries compared to dry conditions.
Key points about wet roads and personal injury

- Typical injuries from wet road accidents include whiplash, head injuries, back pain, fractures, cuts, bruises, and internal injuries.
- To minimize the risk of accidents on wet roads, drivers should significantly reduce their speed, maintain a safe following distance, and be extra vigilant
