Woman Killed in Car Crash Caused by Intoxicated Driver in Houston
Posted on Monday, May 12th, 2014 at 6:53 pm
Cars are a big necessity in our everyday lives, but like almost everything, they tend to break down from time to time. A vehicle malfunction while driving can be dangerous, but you never imagine trouble will appear once you’ve pulled over to take a look under the hood. This proved to be tragic for a group of people in Houston who never imagined a drunk driver would collide with their vehicle soon after pulling off of the road to check on their car’s malfunction.
In Harm’s Way
The accident occurred at 3:15 a.m. on North Sam Houston Parkway after a Lexus Sedan’s hood popped open when the rope that was holding it closed detached. The woman driving the vehicle turned on her hazard lights and pulled off to the side to fix the problem with a male passenger while two other passengers waited in the backseat.
According to authorities, the man and woman saw a truck approaching their vehicle at high speed and attempted to signal it away from them. Tragically, the truck rear-ended their vehicle. The man and woman jumped out of the way and sustained no injuries, but one of the passengers, a 23-year old woman, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene while the other suffered serious injuries.
Police say the 19-year-old man driving the truck, was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He was arrested at the scene and taken to Harris County Jail where he was charged with intoxicated assault with a vehicle and intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle.

Posted on Wednesday, May 7th, 2014 at 4:02 pm
You, like most people, would likely agree that driving involves much responsibility and concentration. You sit inside your vehicle and zoom around town at various speeds, but nothing should go wrong when you stop at a red light, right? Unfortunately, for a group of people from Montgomery County, the “safest” time to be in a car proved to be a fatal one.
Demise at a Light
According to Montgomery County, Texas police, an SUV carrying four people was stopped at a light when a Dodge 3500 pickup truck, driven by a 27-year-old man, rear-ended it at high speed during the early morning hours of April 27th. The force of the impact was so strong that it crushed the SUV and flipped it over while the pickup truck smashed into a utility pole. A 24-year-old woman died at the scene while a 65-year-old man and their two teenagers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The 27-year-old was allegedly intoxicated and fled the scene of the crash but was caught after he checked into a Conroe hospital with a broken arm. Police charged him with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious injury, two counts of aggravated assault and failure to stop and render aid.

Suspected Drunk Driver Could Face Additional Charges after Victim Dies in Hospital
Posted on Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 at 8:54 pm
Losing a loved one can be an extremely painful situation, especially if their death was caused by a hit-and-run accident. Not only will you live a life without this person at your side, but you will have to deal with the stress of medical and funeral fees. A family in Plano may be too familiar with this situation after their loved one, a victim of a hit-and-run accident, died in a hospital after sustaining serious injury.
Danger at the Wheel
The night of April 17th turned tragic when a 22-year-old man drove into four people in a parking lot on northbound Central Expressway. According to witnesses, the man was giving problems to the bouncers at a bar moments before entering his car, seemingly agitated. Sources are unsure if he lost control of his vehicle or purposely drove into the four pedestrians in a fit of anger.
After the accident, the man drove away but was later caught and arrested by police. He was charged with intoxicated driving and causing an accident involving injury but the developing events may bring additional charges. The death of a 23-year-old victim who suffered the most serious injuries, could potentially bring more charges for the alleged wrongdoer to worry about.
Finding Justice
The victim’s family, like many others who have lost someone to a hit-and-run accident, will never fill the void left by his death, but they can still seek justice and find the closure they deserve. Killeen Citizens Concerned with Recent Dog Attack Spur
Posted on Tuesday, April 29th, 2014 at 4:36 pm
A dog attack can be an extremely dangerous and traumatic experience. The victim will not only have to deal with the injuries sustained, but also live with a possible paralyzing fear of canines. While most will agree on feeling a strong bond and love for these house pets, the residents and officials of Killeen have quickly developed an urgent concern due to the recent burst of dog attacks in the Texas city.
A Growing Problem
In the last year, Bell County has been witness to 500 reported animal bites, sixty of those coming from Killeen alone. The most recent of these incidents occurred April 14th when three pit bulls attacked a 12-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy and the 26-year-old woman who was desperately trying to help the children. While none of the victims sustained serious injury, the incident was urgent enough to prompt city officials to warn people to stay away from stray dogs and contact animal control immediately.
Less than two months ago, a 2-year old boy and an 8-year-old girl were attacked when their group of friends was walking home from a neighborhood playground. A dog escaped its home and attacked the girl and, while an 18-year-old boy rescued her, the dog turned its attack on the boy and dragged him away. Both children were taken to a hospital where the younger boy died due to the severe injuries. After the incident, area attorneys told the public they will be held responsible for their escaped dog’s attacks. Had this dog been restrained, the injuries and death could have been avoided. Don’t let your loved ones fall victim to the same fate and prepare yourself in case a dog attack appears in your life.
Fight Back
A dog owner can be held liable for an escaped-pet’s actions. If you or someone you love has ever been a victim of the pain and stress caused by an escaped-dog attack, you must fight back. You don’t have to deal with the hospital bills, anguish and lost wages that can come as a result of a dog attack. Man Charged After Injuring 3 Pedestrians in a Hit-And-Run
Posted on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014 at 6:54 pm
Hit-and-run incidents have become an unfortunate and regular occurrence in the streets of Austin. Last month, a drunk driver claimed the lives of four people and left many more with injuries during the South by Southwest Festival. Now, another hit-and-run case has left three pedestrians injured with many wondering how the problem can be solved.
Alcohol at the Wheel
The latest of these hit-and-run incidents occurred when a 53-year-old man drove onto the sidewalk and struck three people as he made a turn at the intersection of Cesar Chavez and San Jacinto. While the man failed to stop at the scene of the accident, he was finally pulled over at the 600 block of Cesar Chavez. Upon being arrested, he was found to be intoxicated and now faces three counts of failure to stop and render aid along with a driving while intoxicated charge.
A Recurring Problem
With the agonizing scenes of previous hit-and-run tragedies still fresh in Austin’s mind, this new case has sparked comments from people who are wondering what can be done to solve this very serious problem.
A member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving says the issue isn’t getting any better. According to her, there are plenty of existing public service announcements around to educate and warn people about the dangers of drunk driving, yet they choose to ignore them or simply don’t listen.
Don’t Be a Victim

Grandmother’s Death in Hospital Morgue Triggers Family Lawsuit
Posted on Thursday, April 17th, 2014 at 8:44 pm
A California family has been allowed the motion to carry a lawsuit against a hospital after an 80-year-old grandmother died under mysterious circumstances. According to the family attorney, the woman was presumed dead and placed in a body bag only to wake up in the hospital’s freezer and die shortly after.
Family Seeks Justice
The outraged and devastated members of the family have made a claim that says the grandmother was prematurely declared dead and placed in a body bag by hospital staff. According to their attorney, the woman’s body was found upside down inside the bag, which shows her attempt to free herself. He then revealed that mortuary staff was unable to use makeup to cover up the woman’s broken nose and self-inflicted facial wounds.
The family had initially filed a lawsuit for mishandling the woman’s body, but when their hired experts found that the injuries she had sustained were not a result of a heart attack, but rather, struggling and hypothermia, a new lawsuit was filed. The new lawsuit, which will be subject to jury trial, holds the medical center responsible for negligence and wrongful death.

While the alleged wrongdoer was able to avoid the immediate repercussions of her actions by fleeing, she was later found and charged for her negligence.
The Aftermath
Brownsville authorities found the woman and her vehicle in an alley at the 1600 block of South Frontage Road and immediately arrested her. She was charged with two counts of intoxication assault and two counts of an accident involving injury. Texas Woman Blames Walmart for Slip and Fall Injuries
Posted on Tuesday, April 15th, 2014 at 8:12 pm
Shopping for groceries can be a hassle for the average American. One thing that rarely crosses our minds is the risk of suffering injury while collecting our goods. A woman in Texas has found herself in the unfortunate situation of physical recovery after allegedly suffering an injury at a large retail chain.
The Walmart Corporation is facing a lawsuit after the woman claimed she was injured after having slipped and fallen at a Galveston location on March 13th. She alleges her fall occurred when she slipped on a puddle of water as she approached a cash register. The plaintiff is claiming the store’s negligence in maintaining a safe environment was the cause. She is seeking between $200,000 and $1 million in compensation.
Poor Maintenance
The store’s failure to properly maintain its floors placed innocent customers in harm’s way, according to Johnson. Store property managers are responsible for upholding a safe shopping or work environment for customers and employees. Any hazards, such as puddles of water, which could result in injury, should not be neglected. When property owners do not address these hazards in a timely manner, the business could be held liable if a customer alleges that injury has resulted due to said hazards.

Houston Woman Kills Cyclist in Hit and Run
Posted on Tuesday, March 25th, 2014 at 1:17 am
The Accident
A white bicycle stands tied to a pole at the corner of Waugh and West Gray in Houston as a memorial for a deceased cyclist. The 24-year-old woman was the victim of a hit and run accident on December 1st while riding her bike back home.
The motorist who struck the cyclist, a 35-year-old woman, was arrested on a hit and run charge that occurred after an alleged night of drinking and driving.
Lacking Law
After the cyclist was found alive but seriously injured on the curb, she was taken to a Houston hospital where she died days later. Authorities were unable to gather witnesses of the car crash or any information that could have placed more serious charges on the driver. She was eventually only accused with a hit and run charge after she intentionally failed to stop to provide care and assistance to the victim.
Cries for Justice
Although friends, family and fellow cyclists praised the police department for finding and arresting the driver promptly, they were appalled by their inability to find evidence that would have brought a greater sense of closure.
In cases like these, it may seem impossible to find justice but there are people who can help. The personal injury attorneys of the J. Gonzalez Injury Attorneys will dedicate every second to building a strong case that will help you with your loss.
