68th Annual Texas Tour: “El Valle: Border, Beach, and Beyond”

Posted on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022 at 3:59 pm

If you’re a fan of antique automobiles, Harlingen is the place to be from March 31 to April 3, 2022. For the first time ever, the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) – RGV Chapter will be hosting the 68th Annual Texas Tour: “El Valle: Border, Beach, and Beyond.”

Antique automobile enthusiasts from all over the state will bring their vintage vehicles to the Valley for the four-day event, which will include social gatherings, road trips to local points of interest, a raffle, and car competitions in multiple categories. The event will be based at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel located at 751 Harlingen Heights Drive I.

Since its inception in 1935, the AACA has been all about preserving the sight, sound, and feel of antique automobiles. Whether it’s the clatter of the single-cylinder brass-era cars, or the heavy thumping of big block Detroit muscle cars, there’s something about antique autos that fuels the addiction of these kindred spirits. Vintage cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles will be on display for viewing and discussion. Judging will be held Friday, April 1.

Eccentric Millionaire, Albert Doornale, has invited all of his close friends to his estate, including his ex-wife Abigail, his current fiancé Candy Bombay, and his childhood friend from the Lower East Side, Salvatore Carbone.

Everyone arrives at the estate greeted by the grumpy Butler, and cutlery carrying cook. The only problem is, Albert is not there; no one has seen him, not his nerdy nephew, nor his socially-spoiled daughter.

None of the guests has any idea why they are there, or what happened to their host until blood is found in the sink. Was Albert killed and carried away? Inspector Bukowski arrives on the scene. A murder investigation will begin, as soon as a body is found, but may be a long wait.

This audience-interactive play by Lee Mueller runs January 29-30, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. at the South Padre Island Convention Centre, and is presented by the El Paseo Arts Foundation.

The foundation was established in the spring of 2005, as a collaborative effort between artists on South Padre Island and the mainland across the bay. The mission of the El Paseo Arts foundation is to support the arts, to improve the quality of life, and to grow the area as an arts destination in support of the tourism-based economy.

2022 Los Fresnos PRCA Rodeo

Posted on Monday, January 17th, 2022 at 7:22 pm

The Los Fresnos PRCA Rodeo has come to be known as “The Best Little Rodeo in Texas!” This bronco-busting community event started in 1989, when a dedicated group of forward-thinking cowboys and cowgirls got together to establish a rodeo tradition in their small community of just 8,000 residents.

For more than 30 years, the three-day, three night event has featured the best in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, tie-down (calf) roping, team roping, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. The Los Fresnos Rodeo is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), and is produced by Smith Pro Rodeo, also known as “The Greatest Show on Dirt.” Its founder, Stace Smith, produces more PRCA rodeos than any other stock contractor in the PRCA, and is a multiple winner of PRCA’s Stock Contractor of the Year award.

The Los Fresnos PRCA Rodeo is part of a wider community celebration that includes the Cameron County Livestock Show, a carnival, and concerts featuring top-name entertainers. The 2022 musical lineup includes Arron Watson, and The Spazmatics.

The festivities are held every year in the month of February on the Los Fresnos Rodeo Grounds located just off State Highway 100 at 500 East Ocean Boulevard.

Brownsville police search for hit and run driver

Posted on Thursday, January 13th, 2022 at 5:00 pm

Brownsville police are investigating a deadly hit and run accident. The crash happened January 4 at 1:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Calle Milpa Verde, according to Investigator Martin Sandoval, a spokesperson for the Brownsville Police Department.

Sandoval reported that the male victim was struck by a white pickup truck, and died at the scene. Although the victim has been identified, police were not immediately releasing his name pending notification of his family.

Police were also trying to identify the driver of the truck who left the accident scene without providing any medical attention to the victim, Sandoval said.

Can you sue a hit and run driver in Texas?

Yes. Texas law requires drivers to take certain actions following an accident. Drivers must stay at the scene long enough to administer first aid to those who may need it. If no one needs first aid, then the drivers are expected to provide contact information to each other, and to the police.

In some cases, a driver does not stay at the accident site for fear of being criminally charged. This most often happens when other driver was somehow negligent, such as running a red light, or driving under the influence of alcohol.

Suing for damages

Whether you can receive compensation for your injuries and/or damages depends on whether the police can locate the at-fault driver. If they do, then you can sue for damages. If not, then you may have to pay out-of-pocket for expenses that weren’t even your fault.

The injury attorneys at J. Gonzalez Law Firm can use the information you provide, and work with police to help find the hit and run driver. J. Gonzalez can also hire experts, and private investigators to conduct further research into helping you locate the driver, and collect the compensation you deserve.

Insurance claims

If the hit and run driver cannot be located, you can still file a claim with your insurance company to recover some damages. In the state of Texas, insurers are legally required to offer uninsured motorist coverage to all drivers. If you opted for this coverage when you purchased your policy, then you should be able to file an uninsured motorist claim.

J. Gonzalez can help you!

If you have been the victim of a hit and run accident, you might feel as if there is no way you can be made whole again. However, even if the other driver cannot be found, the J. Gonzalez Law Firm can help you understand what to do next. Hiring a J. Gonzalez injury attorney can help you rest assured that your case is being handled properly. Contact J. Gonzalez today at 1-800-CARCRASH to stop feeling like a victim, and to get back to your normal life!
